This is a screenshot (a common image capturing function on most computers that allows one to copy a selected portion of the computer screen's display) of a brief second in Nine Inch Nails' music video Closer. For my screenshots, I find moments of little to no discernible content in music videos or other related digital media that has a great deal of symbolic content compacted into a very specific time frame.

The actual 'work' is the digital image itself. For presentation/exhibition purposes it can be printed on vinyl adhesive to be affixed to walls, printed and framed in more traditional ways, projected, or simply distributed on CD-R's. Example

This is a screenshot (a common image capturing function on most computers that allows one to copy a selected portion of the computer screen's display) of a brief second in Fischli and Weiss' video Der Lauf der Ding/The Way Things Go. For my screenshots, I find moments of little to no discernible content in music videos or other related digital media that has a great deal of symbolic content compacted into a very specific time frame.

In keeping with the source video and the digital nature of the process, this image was compressed thousands of time to purposefully enact 'lossy-ness,' or the inevitable loss of digital information through file compression. This leads to pixelation and distortion in the image. This particular image is the 1003rd SAVE AS.

The actual 'work' is the digital image itself. For presentation/exhibition purposes it can be printed on vinyl adhesive to be affixed to walls, printed and framed in more traditional ways, projected, or simply distributed on CD-R's.

Here is an exhibition view of an inkjet print on vinyl adhesive with a stack of CD's with the digital file saved on them. These were free to visitors. This is from Missing Link, 2010 curated by Martha Kirszenbaum:
